So I have this going for me, which is nice

Bad news: I’m getting laid off from one of my jobs. I’m hoping to get a full-time teaching job for the fall, but in the meantime, with SF rents, I’m more than a little stressed out right now. I’m squeezing in writing as often as I can, but please excuse the extended delays now, and the inevitable creeping backlog.

Good news: The same day I found out about my layoff, someone was giving away this Giants promotional shirt for free in the faculty lounge and I grabbed it because holy shit, just look at it.

Maybe you could set up a patreon to make a little income from writing this blog. I know I would chip in a buck or two a month to help support it.

Honestly I have toyed with the idea but I feel a little weird about it. First off, I’m kind of instinctively uncomfortable trying to make money off material that contains someone else’s intellectual property. Yeah, most of the characters are ours, but much of the world we’re using isn’t. Earning money from fanfiction is a hot and very strange issue right now and it seems like there’s a lot of emotions and hurt tied up in it so I’m inclined to avoid it. I know others are making it work, and I have no problem with it for them, it’s just something I don’t have the bandwidth to navigate right now.

Secondly, as many of you have noticed, I drop references to our game all over the place on reddit and other places. This is solely because I want more people to come and read and enjoy it, and I’d hate for people to think I was spamming just for the sake of making money. Again, I know other people’s Patreons are major sources of income for them and I totally respect that and seen some amazing things through it, but to me it doesn’t seem like a similar fit.

Finally, though I am the one dropping the hours into writing it, it is *all* of our story, so I couldn’t in good faith make money off it for myself. If anything, any money the blog makes would go right back into buying food for us for the dinner we have every week before we play. 😉

But thank you for the suggestion, and the sentiment. Knowing that it’s of tangible value to someone means a lot 🙂

Well I have been thinking what to say for a while. So I will simply share my wishes. I hope you get a part-time job soon, one that you enjoy at that. Though I must say if you get that full-time teaching job I have no doubts taht you will make an awesome teacher.

Thank you 🙂 And actually yeah, in the last couple of weeks, it has started to look like there will be a full time position for me at my school. It will be a paycut from this year, which has been part-time teaching and part-time corporate work, but at least it’s a job at a place I like 🙂 So we’ll see.
